Logista Pharma, a Logista subsidiary specialising in distribution across all pharmaceutical channels in Spain, Portugal, and Italy, will operate from a new logistics platform in Catalonia that will serve as a key distribution hub for its expansion into other European countries. The new platform, Subirats DC1, is owned by Prologis Inc., the global leader in logistics real estate, and is located in the strategic area of Subirats (Barcelona).
This operation marks the first collaboration between both companies in Spain and represents the launch of the largest pharmaceutical logistics platform in Catalonia operated by a logistics provider, totaling 23,416 square meters.
The facility has been designed to meet the specific needs of Logista Pharma, specialised in integrated logistics solutions for healthcare and pharmaceutical products requiring different temperature conditions and high quality and safety standards, fully compliant with GMP and GDP regulations. Subirats DC1 offers storage capacity for 50,000 pallets and features a high‑security APQ area, as well as a partial manufacturing area dedicated to secondary packaging operations.
To ensure a fast and efficient go‑live, the platform has been specifically equipped by Prologis Essentials, which has played a key role from the design phase through to the delivery of a turnkey installation. The implemented solution includes climate‑control systems for temperature‑controlled storage areas (15–25°C), a positive‑temperature cold chamber (2–8°C), racking systems for VNA forklifts, a highly robotised picking area, high‑security (APQ) zones, and dedicated spaces for secondary packaging activities, in addition to the design and fit‑out of office areas.
The building also incorporates solutions aimed at energy efficiency and sustainability, such as high‑efficiency LED lighting and systems designed to enhance operational performance and reduce environmental impact, in line with the sustainability commitments of both Logista and Prologis.
Logistics platforms equipped to meet energy, automation, and temperature‑control requirements are increasingly becoming a key location criterion in the current logistics real‑estate market, especially in highly regulated sectors such as pharmaceuticals.
“Logista Pharma has chosen to strengthen its operations in Catalonia as a strategic hub to expand our coverage across Europe. The Subirats DC1 building fully meets the high operational requirements of the pharmaceutical sector. The quality of the asset and the implemented solutions allow us to optimise our logistics operations and ensure safe, efficient, and reliable service for our customers. Furthermore, its strategic location reinforces our distribution network towards European countries such as France, the Netherlands, and Belgium, supporting our growth ambitions,” said Ignacio Sánchez Caballero, General Manager of Logista Pharma Iberia.
“This operation highlights our ability to support companies in the pharmaceutical sector with logistics solutions adapted to the highest operational standards. Subirats DC1 is an example of how we combine high‑quality assets, services through Prologis Essentials, and a long‑term value‑driven approach for our customers,” added Cristian Oller, SVP, Head of Asset Management for Southern Europe at Prologis.
Catalonia, a logistics hub in Southern Europe
The logistics market in Catalonia continues to show strong demand, particularly for modern, well‑located assets capable of supporting high‑value‑added sectors such as pharmaceuticals. In a context of limited land availability and stringent operational requirements, assets like Subirats DC1 reinforce Catalonia’s position as one of the main logistics hubs in Southern Europe and highlight the resilience of the logistics sector.
The pharmaceutical industry is one of the most demanding and fast‑growing segments within the logistics market, driven by rising healthcare consumption, the need for traceability, and increasingly strict regulatory standards. This growth is generating higher demand for highly specialised logistics platforms with robust technical and operational control requirements.
